Welcome to the October edition of the Blakely Brown newsletter!
In light of the recent hurricanes that have devastated the Southeast, we want to extend our heartfelt sympathies to those affected by these tragic events. Our thoughts are with you, and we sincerely hope for a swift recovery in all impacted areas.
This month, our Co-Founders—Ryan, Ross, and Jacob—are in the U.S., meeting with clients across several states. If you’re interested in connecting with the team during future visits, please reach out via LinkedIn or email us at antonia@blakelybrowngroup.com, and we’ll be happy to make arrangements.
Thank you for being a valued part of the Blakely Brown community.
Best regards,
The Blakely Brown Team
Repair Work Begins in North Carolina and Tennessee Following Hurricane Helene
Hurricane Helene caused extensive damage across the Southern U.S., with losses estimated between $30.5 billion and $47.5 billion. The storm left over 230 dead and caused widespread infrastructure damage, particularly in power, transportation, and water systems, with water treatment systems in Asheville and Tennessee severely affected. Reconstruction efforts are underway, focusing on restoring power, repairing roads, bridges, and water treatment facilities, with more than 100 bridges needing to be rebuilt and 630+ roads remaining closed [as of 10/9].
What does this mean for the engineering and recruitment markets?
1. High Demand for Infrastructure Specialists: Focus on recruiting civil, electrical, and water system engineers for reconstruction efforts.
2. Opportunities in Renewable Energy: Seek talent with expertise in sustainable and modern energy solutions.
3. Multi-year Projects: Recruit candidates ready for long-term projects, particularly in transportation and water infrastructure.
4. Local Collaboration: Prioritize engineers with experience in working with local contractors and disaster recovery projects.
5. Water System Experts: Increased demand for engineers specializing in water treatment and environmental compliance.
Miami Office
Earlier this year, Blakely Brown took a large step forward by expanding into the U.S., officially establishing a subsidiary. With the demand for executive talent soaring—particularly in infrastructure, technology, and healthcare sectors—Miami emerged as the ideal location for our U.S. headquarters. Named by Forbes as one of the top emerging tech hubs, Miami offers us unparalleled access to a diverse talent pool and close proximity to some of the country’s most vital markets.
Now, in the second phase of our U.S. expansion, we are thrilled to announce that we've secured a prime office space in the heart of Miami. Nestled in the vibrant Brickell area, with stunning views of the bay, this new office is the perfect base for us to build our presence in the city. We can’t wait to fly out next year to officially begin operations, and connect with the local community.
Candidate Recommendation
“Ross contacted me about a career opportunity (which I typically do not respond to but this one intrigued me) a couple of months ago. We had a conversation about the position as well as a couple of other opportunities.
I told him that it would take for me to leave my current position even though I was happy where I was at. He listened to my needs and wants and where I wanted to see myself in the future. The company that I ended up going to offered all of that and a little more.
During the interview process and offer stage, Ross regularly stayed in touch with me with any updates that he had heard and was available for my calls and texts (usually returning them by the next day even while he was on holiday). He was a strong advocate for me during the whole process.
I appreciated everything Ross did for me during this process. He worked hard and was in constant communication both with me and the companies that he was working with. I whole-heartedly recommend him and his team at Blakely Brown if you are looking to make a career change. Thanks, Ross!” - Craig Petersen, Principle at Ehvert.
